Sarin nerve agent was found leaking yesterday from a rocket stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported (see GSN, Nov. 14).
The leak posed no danger to personnel at the Army installation or nearby residents, according to Blue Grass Chemical Activity. All M55 rockets containing sarin are stored within shipping and firing tubes; no vapor escaped the tube in this instance, the agency said.
The depot has found five leaks this year, which the Army says is in line with expectations (Ashlee Clark, Lexington Herald-Leader, Dec. 1).
