All aspects of a small-scale sarin nerve agent disposal project at the Blue Grass Army Depot have been completed, the U.S. Army announced yesterday (see GSN, March 4).
Workers used a mobile system to chemically neutralize 160 gallons of warfare material stored in three bulk containers. The project began after a leak was found in one of the tanks.
The containers themselves have been eliminated, while waste produced by the neutralization process was shipped to an incinerator in Texas (U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency release, March 26).
