The United States has issued a $20.5 million contract for enhancements to Kuwait's Patriot air and missile defense system, United Press International reported yesterday (see GSN, July 16, 2008).
Defense contractor Raytheon is expected to provide a number of improvement's the Kuwait's Patriot system, including strengthened "remote launch capabilities," according to the company. The contract came from the the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command.
"By upgrading to Configuration-3, Kuwait will have the latest Patriot technology to ensure mission readiness," Raytheon Vice President Sanjay Kapoor, said in the release. "These enhancements bring a robust and proven capability to Kuwait's air and missile defense units and their ability to counter current and evolving threats" (United Press International, Nov. 16).
