India Draws Up Guidelines to Manage Chemical Attacks

India yesterday released guidelines that would be used to prevent or deal with acts of chemical terrorism, the Indo-Asian News Service reported (see GSN, July 31).

"Terrorists are getting more and more aggressive in their activities the world over," said Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony. "They are adopting newer techniques and technology in their mode of operation."

The new guidelines draw on the expertise of various academic, scientific and military sources. They cover topics such as counterterrorism, surveillance, environmental monitoring, and prevention of hazardous waste smuggling.

"The Defense Ministry shall also prepare itself for the management of (any) chemical terrorism disaster," Antony said (Indo-Asian News Service/Yahoo!News, Aug. 4).
